Q: What is Lacrosse?
A: Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in North America. It is based on the games played by various indigenous groups of North America.
As early as 1100 AD. By the 17th century, a version of lacrosse was well-established and was documented by Jesuit missionary priests in the territory of present-day Canada.
Q: When does player registration open?
A: Registration opens on November 1st and closes February 1st. Make sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and www.FRYLAX.com
Q: What documentation is required for registration?
A: A birth certificate or passport and valid USA Lacrosse membership number are required through June 30th 2026. Please have it on auto renew or pay for 1 year in advance.

Q: Why is a USA Lacrosse membership required and how much does it cost?
A: USA Lacrosse provides insurance coverage to FRYLAX. The cost is $35 per player. The membership provides access to online training materials and videos for players and coaches. For more information please visit www.usalacrosse.com
Q: When is the season and how long does it last?
A: 10U, 12U, and 14U indoor practices run from February 2nd through March 26th?. In April practices transition to outdoor fields located at Veterans and Beckwith fields. The fields are located across the street from the FR Primary and Intermediate schools. Practices will occur twice per week. Games begin in late March and end around Memorial Day or the first weekend in June. Home games are played at the Franklin Regional High School stadium and occasionally Veterans/Beckwith. Away games are played against local school districts.
The developmental team (Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade) will begin their 10 week session in April. Practices will occur once per week from 5-6pm (Day TBD).
Q: I hear that Lacrosse is expensive, is that true?
A: Lacrosse fees vary, but the goal of FRYLAX is to provide value for the cost. Because the season begins in late March indoor practices are held in February and March to prepare for the season. Indoor practice field time is very expensive and represents one of the largest costs for the organization. Fundraising efforts are required and are critical to ensure that registration fees remain reasonable.
Q: What is the cost to register?
A: The fees are the FRYLAX registration fee, USA Lacrosse membership, and fundraising deposit. The current amounts are:
USA Lacrosse Membership: $35
Developmental Program: $100
10U (2nd-4th grade): $250
12U (5th-6th grade): $300
14U (7th08th grade): $325
*$50 early registration discount for sign-ups received from 11/1-12/1 2026
*Fundraising efforts are required by all team members with exception of the developmental program
UNIFORMS: We are switching to new uniforms! These will be Powell Lacrosse branded and cheaper than prior years, $100 for a package that includes jersey, shorts, pinney and shooter shirt. Pinnies will now have names on them to make it easier for coaches to learn everyone's names. (Photos of uniforms etc will be on the site soon)
U6/U8 will only be required to purchase a reversible pinnie, ~$22. But if you wish to purchase a uniform kit or parts of the kit because you know your child will continue to play Lacrosse next year you are welcome to do so!
Q: What equipment is needed?
A: This list is subject to change, but generally this is what is needed:
10U, 12U, 14U Boys: Helmets, gloves, Noscae approved chest protector, stick, elbow pads, cup, mouth guard, and cleats. FRYLAX offers a limited amount of gently used equipment that can be borrowed for a season free of charge for those in need.
10U, 12U, 14U Girls: Goggles, stick, mouth guard (cannot be clear or white), cleats.
6U, 8U: Only a stick is required. 6U recommended stick: Warrior Warp Mini. 8U recommended stick Warrior Junior Evo Warp.
Q: Who plays Lacrosse?
A: Lacrosse is played by girls and boys in grades K-12. There are many club teams for players younger than high school aged. Franklin Regional Youth Lacrosse (FRYLAX) is an established, long standing program. FRYLAX offers lacrosse to boys and girls ages 4 through 14 years of age.
Q: Is FRYLAX just for residents of the Franklin Regional School District?
A: It is not, since we are a club, we gladly accept boys and girls from all surrounding communities. The goal of the club is to bring the thrill of Lacrosse to anyone who would like to experience the sport.
Q: Are there co-ed teams, or are they gender specific?
A: While the basic premise of the sport is the same, there are differences in equipment and rules. Therefore, girls and boys do not play on the same teams. But girls are allowed to play on a boys team and our 6U/8U is co-ed.
Q: My child currently plays other sports, will he or she have difficulties picking up Lacrosse?
A: Absolutely not! Lacrosse combines the skills acquired in baseball, soccer, hockey, basketball, and football to create an exciting alternative or addition to the traditional sports played in the area.
Q: What age group does my child fall into?
A: Boys and Girls travel teams are assigned as follows and play against other local teams:
14U: 7th & 8th Grades
12U: 6th & 5th Grades
10U: 4th & 3rd Grades (2nd graders are eligible to “play-up”)
8U & 6U Co-ed: In-house training sessions: preK-2nd grade
